About This Spot

Stepping into Fisherman’s Outlet feels like slipping into a quietly spirited corner of downtown Los Angeles where the city’s fast pace softens for a moment. With its casual, unpretentious vibe and outdoor-only seating nestled amid the buzz of the surrounding streets, the restaurant invites you to slow down and savor the simple pleasure of fresh seafood in a genuinely local setting.

This is not a place dressed up for show. Instead, it feels lived-in, a neighborhood fixture where conversations blend with the clatter of plates and the sharp, salty scent of the nearby sea. Though the exterior may seem humble, the atmosphere is charged with the anticipation of something thoughtfully crafted—seafood brought in fresh and served with care despite the steady rhythm of a busy lunch crowd.

What draws people here isn’t just the menu; it’s the experience of discovery through flavor and texture. Whether you settle into a meal of perfectly fried catfish strips or indulge in a hearty bowl of clam chowder, there’s a sense of connection to the ocean’s bounty, each bite rooted in freshness and attentiveness. The generous portions mean you don’t just eat—you share a moment that lingers a little longer, often alongside familiar faces and friendly exchanges among diners who keep coming back.

Despite the urban backdrop and occasional lines, there’s a refreshing casualness to the pace. You witness the efficient hum of service that never feels rushed but instead keeps things moving, all while the food gently steals the show. For many, the slight wait is a small price for the relaxed feeling that this is a true local spot—where the seafood speaks louder than the setting, and authenticity happens naturally.

Locals said this was the best, so I tried it. At first, the place didn't look that special, but I have learned not to judge the book by the cover. Wow, the fresh branzino was amazing! Seriously the best fish I've ever eaten. They only have outdoor seating, which is something to know. The location isn't the prettiest. But honestly, the food makes up for everything else. It was so fresh and tasty. The service was also quick, which was nice. Don't let how it looks at first trick you. This place is all about the delicious seafood. If you love fresh fish, you have to try it. The fresh branzino alone is worth going for. You won't be disappointed.

Atmosphere is very casual and easy going. Food was amazing. Plenty of fresh seafood options from fried to broiled. The serving size is plentyful. The line was pretty long, but moves efficiently.

Delicious, fresh & well worth the drive & traffic! A colleague of mine wanted to take me out for lunch, & we decided on this spot with no regrets! The line was ridiculously long but it was worth the wait. The menu is a little pricey for fast food, but again, its fresh! I'll definitely be back !

This is our first time at Fishman's Outlet and Fish Market in downtown L.A. Friends were telling me if you want to try fresh seafood and buy it got to the Fisherman's Outlet in downtown L.A.. After shopping at the flower district we headed to the Fisherman's Outlet for lunch it took us couple of minutes to get there to the restaurant. The restaurant is a historic landmark in downtown. We walk in the restaurant it was busy but not that busy we look at the menu display very thing is fresh seafood including they have a seafood market next door selling fresh fish. My wife and I decided to order the fish combo with shrimp and we choice rice instead of fries two drink and carrot cake. It took couple of minutes to get our order we went outside and grab a table and we sit to enjoy our seafood meal. The fish was amazing good it was tender and fresh and the shrimp were good including the sauces come with the meal. The rice pretty good also. The carrots cake was good also.

The seafood here is amazing! It is so fresh and the portions are very large. The food is definitely reasonably priced. I ordered the Giant Shrimp and Giant Scallop with French fries and coleslaw. I also ordered the calamari plate. The fries and coleslaw were extremely tasty and I was very full at the end of my meal. The garlic herb sauce was a great addition and it fit the dish well. I have been here a couple of times and will come back whenever I drive to LA.

Excellent seafood. Yes there are fried food fish options but it’s such good quality, doesn’t matter. If you don’t want fried, shrimp skewers, scallops, clam chowder are all available. My favorite is the fried fish and shrimp combo. Rice pilaf is quality but fries are also good. I do recommend getting there early if possible. It’s popular with the downtown crowd so lunch time is hectic.
